The National Transport Authority (NTA) has today unveiled a fleet of e-bikes in Cork as part of the TFI Bikes scheme, marking a significant step towards enhancing sustainable and accessible transport options in the city.
TFI Bikes is a convenient self-service bike rental system available to individuals aged 14 and over which aims to enhance sustainable and accessible transport options in regional cities.
With strategically located stations throughout the city, residents and visitors alike can easily access bikes for commuting, social outings, or sightseeing. Each TFI Bikes station is equipped with a terminal and stands where bikes are securely locked and can be rented. Bikes can be conveniently returned at any station within the city.
The newly introduced e-bikes will be available via the TFI Bike App, which provides users with essential features such as:
The e-bikes will follow the existing TFI Bikes fee structure, including membership, subscription, and rental fees. Approximately 100 e-bikes will be rolled out in phases, offering users an efficient, eco-friendly travel option throughout Cork.
“The launch of e-bikes in Cork is an important step in expanding sustainable travel options for residents and visitors,” said Andreas Saul Rotne, Senior Project Manager at the NTA. “By integrating e-bikes into the TFI Bikes scheme, we are making it easier for people to choose active, low-emission transport options for their daily journeys.”
The NTA has announced plans to expand the TFI E-Bikes initiative to Waterford, Limerick, and Galway in the coming months, reinforcing its commitment to enhancing active travel options for users nationwide.
