The National Transport Authority, in partnership with Dublin City Council, has officially opened the Clontarf to City Centre Active Travel Project.
The project features 6 km of cycle route improvements and significant public realm enhancements, making walking and cycling safer, more accessible, and more enjoyable for all.
With 2.7 km of new and upgraded cycle tracks in each direction, the finished cycle lanes provide high-quality, continuous routes for commuters and recreational cyclists.
Under the public realm enhancements, over 8km of continuous, segregated pedestrian walkways were upgraded to improve safety and accessibility for all pedestrians. The walkways feature continuous footpaths, designed to ensure ease of use for everyone.
The combination of high-quality cycle lanes and improved pedestrian infrastructure will support faster, safer, and more sustainable journeys between Clontarf and the City Centre. This project also aims to encourage greater use of active travel options, reduce reliance on private cars, and improve access to key services in the area.
Funded under the NTA’s Active Travel Investment Programme, this project is part of a broader plan to expand walking and cycling networks nationwide. By 2030, the programme aims to ensure that walking, cycling, and public transport account for 50% of all journeys across the country.
