About Luas

Luas is Dublin city’s Light Rail Transit System (tram). It operates two lines:

Luas Red Line has 32 Stops. It runs from Tallaght to The Point and from Saggart to Connolly.

Luas Green Line has 35 Stops. It runs from Brides Glen to Broombridge via the City centre.

Green Line

• Green Line trams operate northbound from Brides Glen or Sandyford to Parnell or Broombridge
• Green Line trams operate southbound from Broombridge or Parnell to Sandyford or Brides Glen

Red Line

• Red Line trams operate eastbound from Tallaght, Saggart to Connolly or The Point
• Red Line trams operate westbound from The Point or Connolly to Saggart or Tallaght

Park and Ride Services

Luas operating times:

• Monday to Friday 05:30 to 00:30
• Saturdays 06:30 to 00:30
• Sundays and Public Holidays 07:00 to 23:00

There is no service on Christmas Day.

Services regularly run every 3 to 4 minutes at peak times and every 15 minutes at night.

Live Departures

Luas does not work off a timetable system but you can check out real time information for any stop here. The Luas website will be updated on the live service updates and disruptions page if there are any disruptions to the service.

There is an option on the Luas website to view live service information. The TFI Live App also lets you check when your next Luas service is due.

Ticket Options

A valid Luas Ticket, Valid Pass, or TFI Leap Card validated at Luas Stop is required to use Luas. Ticket Machines are located at every stop. Please note that tickets cannot be purchased on the trams.

There are a number of tickets you can purchase for Luas. These include:

• Single and return tickets.
  • There is no Student or Young Adult Fare applicable for Single and Return tickets.
  • Single tickets are valid 90 mins from time of issue, for one trip only.
  • No breaks in journey are permitted.
  • Return tickets are valid for outward and return travel on day of issue only.
  • The first trip must be completed within 90 mins from time of issue. 
• Child Ticket:

You can purchase a Child cash ticket if the child is aged between 5-15 years inclusive. Children aged 0-4 years inclusive travel free. Proof of age may be required. Child TFI Leap Cards are also accepted on Luas and offer different fares for those aged between 5-15 inclusive and 16-18 inclusive. 

• Luas Tax Saver Tickets:

Luas Tax Saver Monthly & Annual Ticket information is available on the Luas website. Luas and Bus and/or Rail Monthly & Annual Taxsaver Ticket information is available on the TaxSaver website.

Persons 66 years and over can apply to the Department of Social Protection for a Public Services Card with Free Travel. Click here for further information.

• TFI Leap Card:

You can save nearly 32% more on a TFI Leap Card then paying a cash fare and 50% when using a TFI Young Adult/ Student Leap Card.

You can also avail of the TFI 90 Minute Fare and fare capping when using a leap card.

The card stores your travel credit each time you touch-on and touch-off your journey. Discounts are applied automatically as you touch-on and off along your journey. Don’t forget to touch-on using a platform validator before you get on a tram and touch-off after.

Interchange between the Red and Green Luas Lines

You can switch between the two Luas lines at these stops – Abbey Street, O’Connell GPO and Marlborough Street. This makes for easy access to Saggart, Tallaght, Connolly Station or The Point (3Arena) from the Green Luas Line.

This is useful for passengers on the Red Line as it gives them easy access to Broombridge, Cabra, Phibsborough and all of Luas Green Line stops out as far as Brides Glen.

1. Passengers on the Red Luas Line can disembark on Abbey Street and walk 1 minute to the Marlborough Street stop and board the Green Line that travels to South Dublin.
2. You can get off the Red Line at the Abbey Street stop, walk 2 minutes to the O’Connell GPO stop and board a Green Line that travels north towards Broombridge.
3. Hop off the Green Line at O’Connell GPO stop, walk 2 minutes to Abbey Street and board a Red Line tram heading towards Tallaght, or go the opposite direction to Connolly and The Point (3Arena).
4. You can get off the Green Line at Marlborough Street, walk two minutes towards the Abbey Street stop and board a Red Line tram travelling westbound towards Tallaght or eastbound towards The Point.

The Luas public office is located at the Red Cow Luas Depot, Naas Road, Clondalkin, Dublin 22, D22 C5P3 and is fully accessible.
