FREE BIKE CLINIC CHECK UP
The bike clinic will involve taking in bikes from students and staff of the University, and from members of the public to perform a free “check-up”. This check-up will involve professionally trained and certified Bicycle Mechanics doing an overall health check of the bicycles, and where possible, do some repairs. The repairs could involve replacing; brake blocks, brake cables, brake cable housing, gear cable, gear cable housing and adjustment of brakes and gear indexing. The Mechanic will also attach a bicycle health report, outlining what further repairs are recommended/essential for the safe operation of the bicycle which would be outside the capacity of the bike clinic due to time constraints and space of extra equipment, such as headset repairs, bottom bracket replacements, hub services etc. Time: 10am to 4pm (Subject to change) Date: Monday 13th of May 2024 Location: Block R Earls Island University Road, Galway Suitability: Adults with physical and/or intellectual needs |

BIKE RIGHT Come join the Galway Bay Cycling Club (GBCC) on the 15th of May in association with Buildings Estates, University of Galway. This event is to show people the great design of bicycles from a bygone time. We will have a poster display of colourised photos of cycling in Galway many moons ago, people will have the opportunity to try out cycling a vintage high nelly from the fleet Cumann na bhFear has restored and mechanics from An Mheitheal Rothar will be there on the day demonstrating repairs and maintenance on these fantastic old machines. SLI NA GCAISLEAN AKA THE SEVEN CASTLES HERITAGE CYCLE TRAIL
‘Slí na gCaisleán’ (‘The Way of the Castles’) represents a guided ‘Off the Beaten Track’ heritage cycle tour along a 40km looped trail that encompasses seven castles on the north and eastern side of Galway city and into Galway county. The tour will start at the Plots on the Dyke Road and continue to the vicinity of castles at Terryland, Menlo, Cloonacauneen, Killeen, Ballybrit, Castlegar and Ballindooley.This leisurely cycle will journey over hills, along botharins, past abandoned farms, ruined castles, karst outcrops, bogs, lakes, dykes, turloughs and meadows. The tour will introduce participants to the wonderful natural and built heritage that exists not far from the hustle and bustle of a major modern built-up city. There will be opportunities to tour local historical sites and beautiful rural landscapes, to enjoy a group picnic and to have a light lunch on route. Please note that participants should wear suitable clothing, and bring water and a puncture repair kit.
