Up to 800 domestic and international construction sector representatives to attend NTA briefing

Opportunities presented by BusConnects, MetroLink, DART+ and Active Travel to be outlined

The National Transport Authority (NTA) will this week brief up to 800 contractors and consultants in Ireland and abroad on opportunities which will arise as a result of National Development Plan (NDP) investment in sustainable transport over the next decade.

National Transport Authority Virtual Market Engagement Event (Webinar)

The contractors and consultants have registered to attend the Zoom webinar this Friday May 26th.

The meeting will be chaired by NTA CEO Anne Graham and addressed by Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan and Minister for Public Expenditure, NDP Delivery and Reform Paschal Donohoe.

Representatives of Iarnród Éireann and Transport Infrastructure Ireland will also participate in the event.

The briefing will hear of National Development Plan (NDP) plans to invest in public transport, active travel and the connectivity of communities

The briefing will hear of NDP plans to invest in public transport, active travel and the connectivity of communities to the tune of €35bn, including €15.3bn allocated to the NTA between now and 2030.

Sustainable transport programmes earmarked for funding in the NDP include BusConnects, MetroLink and DART+ along with an ambitious programme of active travel schemes around the country.

Domestic and international construction sector representatives can still register to attend by visiting here.

CEO of the NTA Anne Graham said: “We’ve had a very positive response to this briefing from the construction sector at home and abroad.  The NTA is delighted to welcome up to 800 industry representatives to our online virtual event on Friday.

We are facing into a period of unprecedented levels of investment in sustainable transport. But to deliver this portfolio, engagement is required with the market, particularly with construction interests that have the capacity to deliver large-scale capital programmes.

Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan said: “This Government is committed to reducing our greenhouse gas emissions and transitioning to a low-carbon society. Transport has to be at the heart of this – to reduce our emissions, but importantly, to provide quality, frequent and accessible public transport and active travel infrastructure to many more people.  To that end, in the coming years we will commence construction of some of the largest and most ambitious public transport projects in the history of the State, such as MetroLink, DART+ and BusConnects in our five cities.

As these transformative projects move from planning to construction, Ireland will become a hub for investment in sustainable mobility. I look forward to setting out the opportunities and scale of our ambitions under the National Development Plan to the large number of industry interests attending this week’s event.”

Minister for Public Expenditure, NDP Delivery and Reform Paschal Donohoe said: “As Minister with responsibility for implementation of the NDP, I would like to thank the NTA for arranging the event, and for the opportunity it will afford us to understand better, the challenges and opportunities that we face in implementing the most ambitious programme of investment in the history of the State.

“With this event, we want to raise awareness within the domestic and international construction sector around the scale and breadth of the transport projects that we want to deliver as part of the NDP, and at the same time provide a chance to suppliers to explore the prospect of teaming up to form joint ventures, strategic alliances and partnerships.”

What is the National Development Plan 2021-2030 (NDP)?

  • NDP is an investment programme that was agreed by government in 2021.
  • NDP sets out Departmental allocations to 2025 and a total public investment of €165bn over the period 2021-2030. This will bring public investment to 5 per cent of GNI*, well above the recent EU average of 3 per cent of GDP.
  • Transport projects provided for under NDP include BusConnects, Metrolink and DART+
