TFI Local Link Louth Meath Fingal is launching a new bus service from Drogheda to Brú na Bóinne via the Battle of the Boyne Visitor Centre, from Monday the 26th of February.

Connecting Ireland Rural Mobility Plan

This new route is part of the Connecting Ireland Rural Mobility Plan which is a major national public transport initiative developed and funded by the National Transport Authority (NTA) as part of the Transport for Ireland (TFI) Network.

Route 163 will replace Route 188 from Drogehda to Brú na Bóinne Visitor Centre

Route 163 will replace the existing Route 188 service between Drogheda and Brú na Bóinne Visitor Centre and will operate five daily return services Monday to Sunday. This new route will provide access to both Brú na Bóinne and the Battle of the Boyne Visitor Centres.  Route 188 will now run direct from Donore into Drogheda and as a result, TFI Local Link Louth Meath Fingal, will operate Route 163 to areas previously served by Route 188.

The new route will also provide peak-time services for commuters and will provide enhanced connectivity to St. Mary‘s Hospital, regional bus services in Drogheda as well as connectivity to regional rail services at Drogheda McBride Railway Station.

Capacity challenges will be resolved due to enhanced service

Speaking ahead of the launch, TFI Local Link Louth Meath Fingal Acting Manager, Deirdre Murtaugh said: “We are delighted to launch Route 163, following the success of our 188 service between Donore and Drogheda.  Our passengers used that route in large numbers which resulted in capacity challenges, which will now be resolved due to the enhanced services.

“Route 188 will interchange with Route 163 which will allow passengers from Athboy and the Navan side to still have access to the Brú na Bóinne and Battle of the Boyne Visitor Centres and will give passengers connectivity to St Mary’s Hospital and Drogheda Railway station.”
