To support affordable and convenient travel during the festive season, the National Transport Authority (NTA), in collaboration with public transport operators, has released an enhanced schedule of services for Dublin.
Dublin Bus is enhancing its late-night services for the festive season, adding 45 additional departures on key routes and extending Nitelink services by six extra days in December, including December 12, 19, 22, 23, 30, and 31. These enhancements, which include the popular Route 41 to Dublin Airport and the 39A to Ongar, will provide capacity for over 50,000 extra passengers, ensuring greater convenience for late-night travelers during the busy Christmas period.
Night Luas services will operate on the Red Line and Green Line every weekend leading up to Christmas, as well as New Year’s Eve. Trams will run in both directions, stopping at all stations.
To support rail users, Iarnród Eireann will operate late night special services every Thursday to Saturday up until, and including, Saturday, 21 December. No services will operate on Christmas Day or Stephen’s day, but revised timetables will operate from Friday, 27 December with the exception of the Phoenix Park Tunnel which will have no services.
Go-Ahead Ireland will operate as normal except for Christmas Eve where services will end at 9 PM, Christmas Day where no services will operate and Stephen’s Day and New Year’s Day where services will operate on a Sunday timetable. To support increased demand starting from 12th December, five additional buses will be deployed in the Outer Dublin Metropolitan Area and to the W4 and W6 routes. On New Year’s Eve, Route S8 will see two extra buses, while Route 45A will have two additional buses catering to attendees of the Dun Laoghaire fireworks. Enhanced services will also be available on Route 126 (Naas to Dublin City) and Route 120 (Edenderry to Dublin City), operating in both directions to improve connectivity to and from the city.
Taxi availability in Dublin has reached a new all-time high, with 16,228 taxi drivers available in Dublin, surpassing pre-COVID-19 levels. This welcome news for workers, shoppers and partygoers during the busy Christmas season, supporting improved accessibility and reduced wait times for taxis across the city. Passengers are encouraged to use the TFI Driver Check App to ensure a safer journey.
The TFI 90-minute fare will allow passengers to travel on Dublin Bus, LUAS, Go-Ahead Dublin and most DART or commuter rail services for discounted rates, ensuring affordable travel options for residents and visitors.
The enhanced services coincide with Operation Open City 2024, an initiative by An Garda Síochána is designed to facilitate the movement of public transport and minimise traffic disruption to the public, through high visibility and enforcement activity.
Passengers are encouraged to plan their journeys in advance using the Transport for Ireland (TFI) app or by visiting the TFI website. Detailed schedules and updates for bus, rail, and LUAS services will be available to ensure passengers have the latest information.
