CYCLING IN THE COMMUNITY – NEW MOGEELY TO MIDLETON GREENWAY 

Giving youths the opportunity to explore their environment using amenities within the community. Cycling the new greenway to Mogeely. Having a picnic in Mogeely, a few games and cycling back. Stopping for scavenger hunt itinerary and using the buddy system. This event is all about building friendships and encouraging outdoor activity.

FIX YOUR BIKE SPECIAL SESSION

This special Fix Your Bike session will allow people to learn how to fix their bikes with the help of mechanics from Cork Community Bikes. Mechanics will run through full bike checks with you, and a limited amount of small parts will be offered for free for repairs. Refreshments provided.

Experience the exhilarating joy of exploring the scenic wonders of our local Greenway on two wheels, completely free of charge! CARRIGAHOLT BUSINESS & TECHNOLOGY PARK CYCLE TO WORK

Cork County Council is encouraging all employees of the Carrigtwohill Business & Technology Park to cycle to work during Bike Week 2024. A special link has been made available to register trips. This link along with posters advertising the event have been issued to each business within the Technology Park. All registered cycles will be entered into a prize draw.

BIKE WEEK CYCLE TO PASSAGE

A cycle out to Passage out the old railway greenway. There will be a break for a picnic in Passage before beginning the journey back to the city.

Suitability: Adults, will be marketed and themed to appeal in particular to cycle commuters and residents in the central City area, Cobh, and along the route. Will be suitable for all those capable of competent road cycling and covering short/medium distances including older children under supervision or on their parent’s bikes.

A fun play focused event aimed particularly and children and families but open to all to discover their fun side. A social picnic will be accompanied by fun bike games such as a slow race obstacle course etc.

CORK COUNTY COUNCIL LIBRARY & ARTS SERVICE

Bike Week Design a t-shirt competition & Bike Sense ‘Cycling for everyone’ workshops. To promote cycling as a form of recreation for children & to educate the public on bike care and maintenance.

Art competition would be promoted throughout the library network of 25 branches and 4 mobile units for the duration of Bike Week. Each branch winner will have their design printed on a t-shirt for them to keep & educate workshop attendees on to how care and maintain their bikes.

VENTURE GREENWAY CYCLE DAY

Bringing 10 Venture scouts 15-17 year olds on a cycle through the Waterford Greenway

Set off on the old railway line to the Clonea Road, on through the Ballyvolane Tunnel to Durrow, onto Kilmacthomas and to Kilmeaden and the railway station. Approximately 35km so the Ventures will turn back at that stage after having had lunch.

Bike Week Inniscarra

To promote the benefits of cycling among the community of Inniscarr. On Sunday 12th May Family cycling event commencing in Ballyanly 10am and a guided tour of the parish of Inniscarra. Wednesday 15th Children’s event within the confines of Inniscarra Community Centre. There will be bike tutors on site to ensure safety and advise children on methods of safe cycling. This year the 4 schools in the Parish are invited to get involved and further promote safe cycling and the health benefits. Each of the school are assigned a project which will be presented in the Hall of the Community Centre. McCarthys Cycles, Blackpool will hold a bike workshop on the Wednesday. will attend

Cork County Council in conjunction with Mary Geary’s Childcare in Carrigtwohill are organising a ‘Bike Week 2024 Student Cycle Challenge’ to encourage students to cycle all or part of their journey to and from school during Bike Week. All participants who undertake the challenge will be presented with a token for their participation.

Bring your bike along and mechanics from Cork Community Bikes will show you how to check a bike to make sure it’s safe and comfortable to cycle. This will help you be more aware as problems develop and save you money on repairs. We will also show some quick repairs based on any problems you find on your bike. Tools will be provided if needed. BIKE WEEK BIKE DOC AND BIKE MAINTENANCE INTRO

How to do a quick bike safety and maintenance check and demonstration of a few basic repairs and adjustments as require by participants. To make it easier for people to begin and continue cycling by enabling them to at least spot potential problems on their bike which would otherwise make cycling difficult and so discourage them from continuing cycling and ideally enable them to solve minor problems themselves.

PARKS GREENWAYS & QUITEWAYS OF CORK CITY

The majority of this cycle will be off road and most of the rest on very quiet roads, it will be slow and easy so is particularly suited to those who are less confident cyclists  A Cycle out along the river to the Lee Fields, then along the Greenway behind CIT to Curraheen, though quite estate roads to the Greenway parallel to the N22 between the Bandon Road and Wilton, though quite estate roads and across the Cycle/Pedestrian bridge to Togher cross to join the Greenway Parallel to the N22 into the Tramore Valley Park for t a picnic stop, leave the park via the Greenway Parallel to the N22 to Douglas Village, through the village to the Park on to the Green way to Donnybrook, back through Douglas village to the Green way behind Besskrook to Mahon Strand, past Blackrock Castle and alone the Marine back to the city.

BIKE WEEK SUNSET CYCLE THROUGH TIME

A guided cycle through time. From the formation of the earth, the beginning of life, dinosaurs, etc. to the present day. We will stop at various landmarks in time, learn a little about it, get a feeling of the vastness of time and have some fun on the way.

FULL MOON CYCLE

An unforgettable journey into the night as we cycle from Blackrock Castle out around Mahon strand and back along the Old railway line. Always a most popular and memorable cycle, the journey will be broken by unexpected sensory experiences, which may include music, poetry, performance, light and dark.

This event will follow directly from the “Cycle through time” to Blackrock Castle. The Cycle will finish back in the city centre.

Family Cycle to encourage families to spend time together cycling and expose them to the local amenity MY Greenway. Participants will be accompanied by ride leaders in cycling from Midleton to Mogeely on the newly opened section of MY Greenway. A short stop will be made in Mogeely for a snack.

Wheel truing and building advanced taster

An intro session on straightening and building wheels, this will give a better understanding of how these should work. The focus will be on helping you to recognise when there are problems, and this may allow you to fix any issues that come up on your bike. Feel free to bring your bike along, and we may use it for demonstration, and you will have the chance to try out the repair work yourself. We will have wheels and tools to work on the wheels used. Bad weather could affect this outdoor event.

Fix Your Bike special session

This special Fix Your Bike session will allow people to learn how to fix their bikes with the help of mechanics from Cork Community Bikes. Guided rides to the workshop wil leave Cork Opera House at 1.45pm and 3pm. Mechanics will run through full bike checks with you, and a limited amount of small parts will be offered for free for repairs. Refreshments provided.

Rainbow Cycle

This year Gay Project is teaming up with the newly formed Queer Bike Rides Cork to highlight the group and support their growth through this joint effort. The group provides a safe and inclusive space for individuals within the LGBT+ community to connect and build relationships while enjoying a shared interest in cycling. Additionally the event aims to promote physical activity and mental well-being to a community that faces unique health disparities. Social cycle for LGBTI+ adults along the Marina Greenway route followed by coffee and chats. The cycle will be led by trained ride leaders. Bikes can be provided for up to 20 participants so all members of the community have less barriers to participation. Participants are also welcome to bring their own bikes.

Tune Trail 2024  Highlight and Promote Cycling through a fun and exciting event.   A fun cycling event for Cork. Cyclists are encouraged to dress up in their most colourful outfits – the more outrageous, the better! (All wheels welcome)  Bling your bikes to the max – fairy lights, bike lights, reflective gear.  The Tune Trail will start at the new Marina Park (by Páirc Uí Chaoimh) and stop at a couple of parks en route, for a break, chat and a dance!
