Ursuline College Bikeweek Cycle

May 13 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm

Sligo County Council and Sports Partnership logos

Students from Ursuline College will cycle from the school through Finisklin Industrial Estate, along Strandhill Road to Strandhill, where they will break for ice-cream. Taking place Tuesday 13th May 2025 as part of Bike Week.

As research from #AndSheCycle literature by Green School, An Taisce (2023) shows, only 1 in every 250 girls cycle to school daily, compared to 1 in every 25 boys. This highlights the need for more support for teenage girls, offering spaces where they feel comfortable and encouraged to participate in cycling, boosting confidence, independence, and physical activity.

This event aims to promote cycling as an activity which girls can carry throughout a lifetime. It will encourage teamwork, a sense of empowerment and help develop skills among young teenage girls. More importantly this event aims to provide an opportunity for them to challenge their own stereotypes, inspire leadership, and create lasting memories while advocating for gender equality and a healthier lifestyle.
