If you are travelling in Dublin: 

For the cheapest travel, simply touch on your last journey within 90 minutes of your first journey.

The TFI 90 minute fare allows you to travel on Dublin Bus, Luas, Go-Ahead Ireland Dublin City services and most DART and commuter rail services for just €2.00 for adults, €1.00 for young adults (19-25) and students, and 65 cent for children using your TFI Leap Card!

Look out for the Winter Lights! The Dublin City Council Dublin Winter Lights is a festive experience where people can experience imaginative light projections by leading artists throughout the city centre.

Operation Open City 2024 is taking place throughout the month of December. This initiative by An Garda Síochána is designed to facilitate the movement of public transport and minimise traffic disruption to the general public, through high visibility and enforcement activity.

Public Transport Service Arrangements

The following Bus Éireann services will operate over the Christmas and New Year period.

  • Christmas Eve 24th Dec: All services operate as normal with last departures from termini at 9 PM.
  • Christmas Day 25th Dec: No services will operate.
  • St. Stephen’s Day 26th Dec: Sunday timetables will operate with the exception of route 220 in Cork. Most routes will commence at 9 AM with a number of exemptions.
  • 27th Dec – 31st Dec: Normal timetables will operate.
  • New Year’s Day 1st Jan: Sunday timetables will operate.
  • 2nd Jan: Normal timetables will resume.

The following Dublin Bus services will operate over the Christmas and New Year period.

  • Thurs 12th Dec: Services will operate as normal with full Nitelink and 24 hour services in operation.
  • Thurs 19th – Mon 23rd Dec: Services will operate as normal with full Nitelink services in operation.
  • Christmas Eve 24th Dec: Services will operate as normal up to 9 PM. No services will operate after 9 PM.
  • Christmas Day 25th Dec: No service will operate.
  • St. Stephen’s Day 26th Dec: Sunday service will operate. Nitelinks will not operate. Routes 15, 39a, 41, C1, C2, C5, C6, G1, G2 and N4 will operate from 5 AM.
  • Fri 27th Dec: Saturday service will operate with some additional early morning departures. Nitelink and 24-hour services will operate.
  • Sat 28th Dec: Services will operate as normal with full Nitelink and 24 hour services in operation.
  • Sun 29th Dec: Services will operate as normal along with 24-hour services. Nitelink services will not operate.
  • Mon 30th and Tue 31st Dec: A Saturday service will operate. Full Nitelink and 24-hour services will operate.
  • 1st January: A Sunday service will operate along with 24-hour services. Nitelink services will not operate.
  • 2nd Jan: Normal services resume.

  • St. Stephen’s Day 26th Dec: Services will commence at 9 AM and operate to a Sunday timetable.
  • 27th Dec – 30th Dec: Normal services will operate.
  • New Year’s Eve 31st Dec: Normal services will operate. Four additional trips will operate on the number 126 route and and 4 on the number 120 route. 
  • New Year’s Day 1st Jan: Services will operate to a Sunday timetable.
  • 2nd Jan: Normal services will resume.

Iarnród Éireann customers on all routes are advised to check times before travelling, and to book Intercity travel in advance at busiest times.

Iarnród Éireann will operate late-night special services every Thursday to Saturday beginning 5th December and finishing 21st December. The below special services will be running.

Late night services from Dublin City Centre

  • 12:30 AM and 1:30 AM from Pearse serving all stations to Howth
  • 12:35 PM and 1:35 AM from Connolly serving all stations to Greystones
  • 12:40 AM and 1:40 AM from Pearse serving Tara St, Connolly, and all stations from Howth Junction to Dundalk
  • 12:20 AM and 2:05 AM from Pearse serving all stations to Maynooth
  • 11:55 PM and 1:58 AM from Pearse serving all stations to Drumcondra, and all stations from ParkWest to Kildare

  • Due to Engineering Works between Connolly and Grand Canal Dock, Rosslare services will operate as bus transfers between Connolly and Bray. Trains will operate between Bray and Rosslare only.
  • Due to Engineering Works between Connolly and Grand Canal Dock, a revised Saturday service will operate on DART and Connolly Commuter routes with the below additional peak time services (Please see further information below).
    • 06.00 Greystones/Pearse
    • 06.25 Bray/Pearse
    • 06.30 Pearse/Greystones
    • 06.00 Howth/Connolly

Night Luas Services

Night Luas trams will run until the early hours of the morning on the Red and Green Lines on Friday 13 December, Saturday 14 December, Friday 20 December, and Saturday 21 December with an 8 pm finish on Christmas Eve. Night Luas will also run on Tuesday 31 December.

Night Luas trams will run in both directions, collecting passengers at all stops on the Green Line and Red Line; however, the last Night Luas trams will only run Westbound from The Point Luas Stop on the Red Line and Southbound from Broombridge on the Green Line.

Last Luas Services on days where there is no Night Luas:

  •  Last tram from The Point Westbound: 12:30 AM Monday – Saturday and 11:30 PM Sunday
  • Last tram from Connolly Westbound: 7:31 PM but trams run until late at night from Busáras Luas Stop (approximately 200m walk) 12:38 AM Monday – Saturday and 11:36 PM Sunday
  • Last tram from Saggart Eastbound: 11:52 PM Monday – Saturday and 10:51 PM Sunday
  • Last tram from Tallaght Eastbound: 12 AM Monday – Saturday and 11 PM Sunday
  • Last tram from Broombridge Southbound: 12:17 AM Monday – Saturday and 11:17 PM Sunday
  • Last tram from Brides Glen Northbound: 12 AM Monday – Saturday and 11 PM Sunday

A valid Luas Ticket, valid Public Services Card with Free Travel, or TFI Leap Card validated at the Luas Stop is required to use Luas.

Taxi tips for the holiday season 2024

Travelling by taxi or hackney this festive season? Here are some helpful hints to keep you moving:

  • Plan ahead: The festive season is particularly busy for all public transport services. Check out TFI bus, train and Luas service information before you travel If you choose to travel by taxi or hackney, be sure to book ahead if you can.
  • Maximum fares: Travelling by hackney? Don’t forget to agree your fare in advance. Travelling by taxi? The taximeter shows the maximum taxi fare payable (apart from tolls). To get a cost range for your journey, check out the TFI Taxi Fare Estimator.
  • Extra fees: If you choose to book your taxi on an App, you may be charged separate fees for using that booking service. Shop around to get the best value!
  • Cash or Card? The choice is yours! All taxi drivers must take card payments (with no extra charges).
  • Receipts: Be sure to ask for your taxi receipt and don’t forget to look before you tap. Find out more information on your taxi fare before travel.
  • Safety: All licenced taxis have authorised ‘Taxi/Tacsaí’ roof and door signage. Download the free, real-time TFI Driver Check App to check your hackney or taxi driver is fully licenced, and to share your journey information with a friend.
