Dublin City Council is proud to present PedalPower a free cycling-focused multi-activity event, taking place as part of National Bike Week and Climate Action Week
Two categories for children to learn to cycle. Beginner / Nervous (5 to 10 years) – For children who are just starting on a pedal bike, struggle with getting started, or wobble a lot while cycling. This level focuses on improving balance and pedalling skills. Improver / Advanced (8 to 12 years) – For children who can start and stop independently and cycle in a straight line but need to improve their braking and cornering skills.

During Bike Week, club volunteers will visit local schools for fun, hands-on cycling sessions. Teens at The Comp in Glenties will learn basic bike maintenance, while younger children at national schools will practice cycling skills in the playground
Grassroutes Bike Hire will run eight inclusive cycling classes during Bike Week 2025 for students from Little Angels and St Bernadette’s schools. Sessions include bike fitting, safety checks, and adapted cycling skills, promoting confidence, physical activity, and independence. All equipment is provided, making cycling accessible and enjoyable for all abilities.

Members of Naomh Padraig Uisce Chaoin will take part in an event aiming to promote and encourage the use of the new Greenway when traveling to and from matches/training. The event will involve a one hour session at the club led by local cycling coaches focusing on cycling skills, cycling safety and guidelines for using the greenway. This will be followed by a guided cycle on the greenway and refreshments in the clubhouse.

Tir Chonaill GAP will host two Bike Week events: an introductory mountain biking session on new Coillte trails, and a safe 40km road cycle using the new N56 cycle path. This event will take place on athletics track which will afford the participants an opportunity to try different bikes and trikes in a safe environment. Participants get to try many different types of bikes including electric bikes, and trikes, recumbent E-Trikes and Side by Side bikes as well as a range of adapted bikes.
Paralympian and pro cyclist Mitchell McLaughlin will visit the school to share his experiences from the 2024 Paris Paralympics and racing across Europe. He’ll speak to class groups, show his bikes and jerseys, and answer students’ questions in an inspiring, interactive afternoon about sport and motivation.
