The National Transport Authority has statutory responsibility for setting fare levels on public transport services.

All public transport operations which are subject to a Public Service Contract with the National Transport Authority must have their fares increases approved by the Authority. This includes all LUAS fares also.

Any request received from the operators will be assessed in detail by the Authority and this assessment will be published with any announcement of fares increases approved.

The Authority is committed to simplify the fares structure across all public transport modes and by using the Leap card framework, introduce a more integrated fares structure. The Authority is also working to remove any anomalies across fare stages and to ensure that fare bands are fairly applied.

The Authority is currently developing a fares engine which will calculate trip costs across all public transport service providers. This will be used to enhance the journey planner later this year.

Prior to the launch of this fares engine, a list of fares for popular fare types is provided – see tabs on the left.

Links to transport operators are also included for more in depth information.
